Not All Love Stories Have Love

It was a small room. Small yet beautiful. A beautiful, but large window that opened to the hills across. And when it rained it looked like the most beautiful of all the valleys. The curtains of the window, deep purple n blue silk curtains, well adjusted n tied with a pearl like necklace. It was another solitary n scenic evening when she was sipping tea, and looking at the rain, waiting for him to be back from office. As her favorite ghazals play on in the background, she goes to the kitchen to prepare for some evening snacks for him. The bell rings and she switches off the ghazals, and inserts a CD of some romantic songs that he loves.

Opens the door, takes the helmet n bag from his hand and welcomes him with a big smile. He freshens up, and as he looks at her preparing tea for her, he couldn’t stop him from cozying up to her. She hushes him away, prepares a couple of potato wedges, a cup of black grape tea for him, keeps it on the corner table and hugs him from the back as she stands by the window listening to the music that she has put on.

He is not this romantic usually but likes some soft music off and on. He turns around and pulls her for a short dance. Both of them have big, unending smiles on their faces. Smitten by her hair, her eyes and her smile, he stops all of a sudden and pushes her to the bed. She leans over him, looks into his eyes, and plants an expected kiss on his lips. The sweetness of the kiss on his lips leaves him wanting more of not the kiss, but more of her. But he is calm and prefers to have tea and wedges. She pulls up a chair and sits in front of him, both of them looking at the rain. They sat quiet as his mind wandered in thoughts…just like the rain, her love was being poured onto him each day. This moment of happiness was not something that he took out with him to office each day. It was this little place far from the hustle bustle of the city, that he preferred to live in. He daily left at 5 in the morning and came home by 6 in the evening. He preferred this shift b’cos it gave him time with her, specially in two of the most beautiful parts of the day: the dawn and the dusk.

But did she really love him? Just as the thought came up, she interrupted and said, “how about fried rice for dinner today?” He nodded in a yes, and thought, I don’t need her to ‘really’ love me and went to the kitchen with her smiling. She put the vegetables and rice in two separate bowls, and put it in the microwave to cook.

He changed into a kurta pajama, slowed down the music and sat with his diary to write something. She sat beside him, with her head on his shoulder. He knew what is on her mind. He puts his arm around her and continues writing. After two minutes he keeps aside the diary and pulls her to his heart, letting her fall into his lap. He face is completely smeared with tears, and she s once again her bare self in front of him. Had he not been there, she would have felt completely helpless in such situations. But his broad shoulders, his kind heart, his benevolent soul and his loving hands had been the softest of all cushions to her tender and fragile heartaches. He pressed herself into him and sobbed in small breaths. That’s when the phone bell rang, she did not want him to leave her this moment, but he insisted on taking the call. It was his mom. She wiped off her tears and went into the kitchen to have a look at the rice. She put a little oil in a frying pan, then fried the vegetables for a minute and so and then put in the rice, put on a lid and turned the gas to sim, and walked up to him, in his arms smiling, she asked him to hand over the phone to her. She took the phone and talked to mom in a slow, shy voice. But her words were firm and definite. He was proud to be with her. And she was the happiest with him. She talked to his parents, went in the kitchen, put off the gas burner and started preparing for the tomato onion Manchurian-like gravy. She was done in 15 minutes and then walked up to him, in the garden.

The sunset was beautiful, but the insects were now hovering on their head so they moved in and sat for at 8 pm. This was their usual time for dinner everyday. Fried rice, Manchurian, two glasses of lime soda and loads of love served on the dining table. They had dinner and then he lay in bed with the novel that he was reading currently. She wrapped up work in the kitchen and went for a bath. And as she stepped out of the bathroom, his jaw dropped. She looked absolutely stunning and unreal. She wore a shiny, purple satin two-piece, with a net, knee length, nighty that clung to her curves loosely.

He did not know how to react, his eyes and mouth wide open. And then his gaze started moving up to her face, she wore a diamond like purple stone with two purple strings dropping down to her cleavage, her wet hair neatly tied in a bow, and her lips wearing a naked shine. She walked up to him and rested her head on his shoulder. He was still calm today, and hugged her close. But her strong ladylike scent and her serene look didn’t let him hold himself for long. But he was still slow and passionate. His control had one her over today. He was in a very strange but desirable mood. He lay her down keeping her head carefully in his palm and just gazed into her eyes. She returned the gaze with equal fervor and kept ruffling his hair lovingly. She closed her eyes and he could not wait longer to kiss his lady. The first kiss, dropped on her shoulder, left her shivering…and then…… The passionate night lead both of them into very careless and warm sleep in each others arms. She got up with the very light alarm that she used to set in her college days. A sweet little tone by Sony Ericsson called the ‘Dreamer’. She got up got into her casual cotton shirt and skirt. Woke him up with tea, and a flurry of kisses. He needed some pampering in the morning, and she loved to fulfill his heart’s need. With his head on her bosom, she woke him up like a baby every day. Today also she was sitting with him, when he turned his face towards her and said, “You looked heavenly yesterday” and smiled. She smiled and said, “ its all for you and kissed him on his lips softly.” They moved out of bed and got ready and left at 5:15, for office. Had their breakfast near his office and then she took a bus for her office.

She used to come back at 2pm and then worked from home for sometime if required. This is normal day in their life. They are not in love, even if they appear to be. Where so their keep their love and for whom…might take another page…. Monday, August 03, 2009 5:17 pm
